Functional and fire protection reorganisation of a retirement home

Berlin Wannsee

The buildings of the institution comprise a villa from the Gründerzeit and an extension from the late 1970s.

In the course of implementing the higher standards required for dormitories, the entire building was redesigned in terms of its functional structure and fire protection. The basis for this was also the economic possibilities for operating the facility. For this purpose, the building was given a new conceptual structure. The aim of the planning was to improve the overall situation without extensive interventions in the existing substance.

The new internal structure by means of targeted measures, the redesign of escape routes and utilisation units paired with improved alarm technology allowed all measures to be carried out in occupied condition in close coordination with the owner and tenants.

In particular, the planning of the fire protection measures and the coordination of the necessary measures were prepared and carried out by bfl | Architekten.
