Living under and above roofs

At a corner of the building in the eastern part of the city, flats are to be created in the attic space.
The penthouses extend over two floors and offer light-flooded living and working spaces that flow into one another. The new roof shape refers to the existing building edges of the surrounding area, which is characterised by Wilhelminian residential buildings. With incised terraces and generous dormers formed in the axis of the existing bay windows, a new roofscape is created that speaks a contemporary architectural language.
The two-storey nature of the flats offers the possibility of creating a high air space with gallery level in the interior, which will be the focus of the design as a communicative and individual element.
Floor-to-ceiling windows provide a bright, open impression of space and views at sitting and standing height, for children and adults. The roof surface can be made energetically and ecologically usable by designing it as a green roof and supports a pleasant indoor climate in winter and summer.
